Agricultural water management transformations

Integrated agricultural water management is highly beneficial for crop and livestock production. It enables an additional irrigated harvest cycle in the dry season, making crop and livestock production more resilient.

IWMI pioneers solutions in the management of land and water for productive agriculture, reflecting the resource realities of today and the future. Researchers create innovate methods of implementing agricultural water management to ensure sustainable and productive mixed farming systems.

IWMI’s research and programs:

  • Promote agricultural water management through scaling partnerships and demand-driven research to foster solar-powered irrigation.
  • Foster and develop water and nutrient saving technologies for crops.
  • Improve rain-fed crop productivity.
  • Enhance irrigation and drainage services.
  • Trial non-conventional water and irrigation approaches that sustain the ecosystems whilst enabling food production, nutrition and rural livelihoods.
