Transboundary Rivers of South Asia (TROSA) – Rivers, rights and resilience

Building on TROSA Phase 1, this project will strengthen the capacity of elected representatives and local administrative staff within municipalities in the Mahakali Basin, Nepal, in understanding the challenges posed by the climate crisis, especially for women. The transboundary nature of the basin is an opportunity to address issues between countries but also between different local authorities with the Sudurpashim province when upstream community use of the river affect availability and quality of water downstream.

The insights generated from the institutional analysis, knowledge generated during Phase 1, and a scoping study will support the curriculum development of leadership capacity strengthening in line with TROSA’s interest in developing women and youth leadership. IWMI will implement a leadership training cycle at the federal level in 2023 and lessons from this pilot will also be integrated within this proposed training cycle at municipality level starting in the first quarter of 2024.
