He works closely with national and international organizations to design and implement research initiatives that deliver practical and scalable solutions addressing land degradation, groundwater stress and the impacts climate change.
Previously, Kumar worked for 18 years at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in multiple scientific and leadership roles across India. He was Principal Scientist at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where he also served as head of the division of soil science and agronomy for over five years.
Kumar work spans soil and water conservation, watershed management, regenerative farming and landscape restoration. He has deep expertise in soil health management, landscape rejuvenation, nature-based solutions, remote sensing, GIS, hydrological assessment, participatory planning and agrivoltaics. Through his work, Kumar connects science, policy and field-level practice to support sustainable land and water management.
