Viet Nam

Viet Nam is a country defined by its rich natural landscapes, where water plays a crucial role in both its environment and culture. The Mekong Delta, with its vast network of rivers, is a lifeline for millions, supporting agriculture, biodiversity, and livelihoods. However, rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and climate change pose significant threats to these vital waterways, challenging the delicate balance between development and conservation.

IWMI in Viet Nam

IWMI’s work in Viet Nam focuses on creating more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems by promoting agroecological transitions and innovative water management practices. Through partnerships with national and local stakeholders, IWMI facilitates the scaling up of sustainable practices to improve food security, water availability, and farmer livelihoods in vulnerable regions. These efforts address knowledge gaps and help foster the adoption of climate-resilient solutions that contribute to both environmental and socio-economic wellbeing.

In addition, IWMI is supporting the integration of circular economy principles into water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems to enhance climate resilience. By promoting nature-based solutions and working closely with local communities, IWMI is improving water security and supporting more inclusive, sustainable agricultural practices in regions like Viet Nam’s Central Highlands. These initiatives also aim to build stronger links between public and private sectors, enabling broader implementation of climate-resilient water management and agricultural solutions.
