Côte d’Ivoire
Côte d’Ivoire is rich in water resources, with numerous rivers like the Bandama and the Sassandra, which play crucial roles in supporting agriculture, hydroelectric power, and local communities. However, the country faces challenges with water pollution, deforestation, and the impacts of climate change, which threaten water quality and availability. Sustainable management of these resources is critical to support food security, conserve biodiversity, and ensure resilient ecosystems in the face of growing population pressures and environmental stress.
IWMI in Côte d’Ivoire
IWMI’s work in Côte d’Ivoire focuses on transforming agriculture to enhance food security, improve nutrition, and build climate-resilient food systems. By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing digital agriculture tools, and improving water management systems, IWMI helps farmers, especially women and youth, adapt to climate challenges. The initiatives also aim to scale innovations in land and water management, fostering inclusive agrifood systems that are sustainable and equitable for local communities.
Additionally, IWMI is engaged in improving water accounting and management in key river basins like the Volta, supporting informed decision-making and strengthening transboundary cooperation. Through these efforts, the organization helps governments and stakeholders optimize water use, mitigate risks, and foster sustainable agriculture. IWMI’s focus on integrating data-driven solutions and water governance enhances the resilience of the agricultural and water systems in Côte d’Ivoire and surrounding regions.
