Youth

Young people are central to addressing today’s water challenges and building the foundations for future water security. Yet their exclusion from water governance, limited access to resources and restricted economic opportunities limits their ability to influence policies and solutions.

IWMI’s work focuses on empowering young people as leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in water management. Through research and innovation, IWMI strengthens youth leadership by expanding access to knowledge, skills, data and innovation pathways. This includes supporting youth participation in water governance, enabling entrepreneurship through innovation accelerators and integrating youth perspectives into water risk management, food systems and climate adaptation. Working with governments, research partners, civil society and youth networks across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, IWMI advances inter-generational accountability for water security. By embedding youth leadership into collective action on water, IWMI helps build future-ready institutions and solutions that are more adaptive, inclusive and resilient.
