Health and water quality

IWMI recognizes that protecting and enhancing water quality is fundamental to improving public health and achieving its vision of a water-secure world. In its Strategy 2024–2030: Research and Innovation for Water Security, IWMI also highlights the protection of water quality as a key priority for mitigating water-related risks.

Over the past two decades, IWMI has implemented more than 100 projects across Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America, with water quality components. These efforts have focused on water quality monitoring, control of water pollution, health risk assessments, water quality modeling and safe use of marginal quality water.

Drawing on its multisectoral research expertise, IWMI is deepening its efforts to address the interconnected challenges of health and water quality, aiming to develop evidence-based strategies and innovations for sustainable water futures.
