Support for sub-sector working group on irrigation in Laos

Under this project IWMI will support the Secretariat for the Sub-Sector Working Group (SSWG) in Lao PDR. The Secretariat Role for the Sub-Sector Working Group on Irrigation (SSWG-IR) aims to provide technical and non-technical support to achieve the following key objectives:

1. Offer strategic assistance to the SSWG-IR, and the Sector Working Group on Agriculture and Rural Development (SWG-ARD) more broadly, that helps the government and its development partners in promoting and advancing the irrigation sub-sector.

2. Enable the effective execution of sub-sector revisions as laid out in the national Irrigation Sub-Sector Review (ISSR) of 2019.

3. Create opportunities for development partners to contribute to the attainment of goals and targets outlined in the new National Irrigation Strategy (NIS) spearheaded by the Department of Irrigation (DOI) as guided by the Agriculture Development Strategy for 2025 and Vision for 2030.
