ICAR program support

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and IWMI will cooperate in areas including agricultural disaster risk management, improving water productivity, developing strategies for government programs, and implementing global initiatives and South-South cooperation during the period 2022-2026.

The goal of this collaboration is to assess synergies and trade-offs within the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem nexus and to develop integrated land and water strategies that align with national flagship programs. Accordingly, the project’s activities will promote science-based solutions to address agricultural disaster risks, particularly floods and droughts, while advocating for sustainable agricultural productivity and climate resilience by leveraging relevant CGIAR programs and bilateral projects of the two institutions. It also aims to optimize water productivity and enhance the resilience of irrigation systems through advanced analytical tools and digital technologies. Additional priorities include solar-powered irrigation, resource recovery and reuse, and support for peri-urban agriculture.
