Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA)
Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) works with national and regional partners across Africa to provide access to — and enable the use of — enhanced climate information services and validated technologies and practices for climate-smart agriculture for millions of smallholder farmers across the continent. AICCRA aims to support farmers and livestock keepers to better anticipate climate-related events and take preventative actions, with better access to climate advisories linked to information about effective response measures.
AICCRA has teams in six countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Senegal and Zambia. AICCRA teams also focus on four themes: knowledge, partnerships, innovation and gender and social inclusion.
In Ghana, AICCRA bolsters the livelihoods of resource-poor farmers and supports greater food security through a partnership-led approach to improve farmers’ access to climate information services and the technology and innovation that underpins climate-smart agriculture. The project incorporates gender and social inclusion-sensitive approaches, resulting in over 39% of our beneficiaries being women.
In Zambia, AICCRA focuses on scaling access to and use of climate-smart services and innovations, to help Zambian farmers and communities safeguard their livelihoods in the face of climate change. IWMI is working with local and national partners to scale actionable climate information, de-risk investments into agribusinesses and boost the knowledge and use of climate-smart agriculture technologies which promote gender and social inclusion.
The project strives to strengthen the technical, institutional, and human capacity needed to enhance the transfer of climate-relevant information, decision-making tools, and technologies to support scaling efforts.
The project has three main technical components:
- Knowledge generation and sharing: Development of climate-informed agricultural advisory services and decision-making tools.
- Strengthening partnerships for delivery of climate-smart innovations in agriculture.
- Validating climate-smart agriculture innovations through piloting.
