In last 7 years, Thilina worked as a Water Resources Engineer (of Modelling) for Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program under Principal consultant, Tractebel consultants. Also, he worked for different organizations such as ADB, IUCN, IWMI and within the UNDP system on part time basis.

Thilina has conducted Hydrological modelling using SWAT and HEC-HMS tools, Water allocation modelling using Riverware, HEC-ResSim and WEAP, and completed several water balance assessments using Riverware tool.
