Niranga worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Technology (FMSC), University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He served as academic coordinator of the MSc program in disaster management at the Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
