Regional Researcher - Water Systems Modelling


Kirubel Gebreyesus is a water resource expert with over 15 years of research experience in spatial hydrology, water systems modeling, and water accounting. His research has focused on improving approaches for selecting remote sensing data products for water accounting modeling and tracking water for countries and catchments using the Scale-Invariant Water Accounting Framework (SIWA+).

Before joining IWMI, Gebreyesus worked as a senior hydrologist at Ethiopian Engineering Cooperation, contributing to feasibility studies for water resource development projects both in Ethiopia and abroad. He leverages expertise in stakeholder engagement and applying hydrologic/hydraulic models to inform water resource management decisions.
