Alexandr Nikolayenko has more than 25 years of experience in the development and implementation of international projects in the fields of water diplomacy, climate change and natural resources management, with a particular focus on applying the WEF Nexus approach in Central Asia.

Prior to joining IWMI, Nikolayenko served as Senior Regional Advisor for the GIZ programme “Transboundary Water Resources Management” and as Deputy Programme Manager for the GIZ programme “Green Central Asia.” He has also led and managed projects implemented by United Nations Development Programme, the European Union and Central Asia Regional Environmental Centre. Nikolayenko is an expert in regional cooperation in Central Asia, sustainable water resources management, and environmental security.
