Pakistan Water Week 2022
The Role of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus for a Climate Resilient Pakistan
Monday-Friday, 24-28 October 2022 | All Day
Islamabad, Pakistan
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) NEXUS Gains Initiative, are organizing Pakistan Water Week 2022 in association with the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives (MoPD&SI), and Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR), through the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).
Pakistan Water Week 2022 comprises two major events:
International conference (24-26 October 2022)
National exhibition (27-28 October 2022)
International conference
The impact of this year’s heatwave and flooding events due to climate change have only exacerbated the problems facing Pakistan and its use of water. This conference will aim to address the systemic cross-sectoral thinking across water, energy, food and environmental systems for climate-resilient development in Pakistan. There are clear opportunities to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change on the poor rural communities. This conference will shape the focus and agenda of water planning and management moving forward.
Considering the recent floods, Pakistan Water Week 2022 is going to be unique of its nature in Pakistan. More than 20 international experts and national stakeholders will gather to discuss present issues in water sector with prospective solutions. Pakistan Water Week 2022 will provide a scientific knowledge platform to those interested in water management and innovative climate solutions to share their concerns, opportunities, and work to build resilience to climate change for the Indus Basin. The conference will also share the best international scientific practices and guidance to develop more climate-resilient water and land solutions in the Indus Basin.
The key objectives of Pakistan Water Week 2022 are to:
Identify gaps in policy, procedures, and practices that would benefit from better scientific knowledge, understanding, and evidence of proposed climate resilient solutions in Pakistan.
Discuss water governance strategies for competing water requirements of multiple sectors.
Engage in a process to identify key climate adaptation actions leading to sustainable water management for the Indus Basin.
Pakistan Water Week 2022 builds on the successful Pakistan Water Week 2021 which was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, through PCRWR, in collaboration with IWMI and CGIAR’s Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE) flagship program, from 06-09 December 2021. It was themed around “The Need for Sustainable Water Management in a Climate Crisis for Indus Basin.”
