Juan Carlos Sanchez Ramirez

Research Group Leader - Water Governance and Political Economy


Juan Carlos Sanchez Ramirez worked for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) as an Advisor for Transboundary Wetland Management in the Nile Basin until 2022. Before this, he worked with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for over 10 years on projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Ramirez holds a Doctor of Philosophy in International water law from the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom and a Master of Science in Environmental governance from the University of Freiburg in Germany.
